Current Obsession - Heirloom Pumpkins and Unexpected Fall Colors

Here is a great piece about selecting the best pumpkin varieties from The Spruce.

Last year I went wild at a U-pick pumpkin farm outside of Portland, Oregon [insert adult money joke here]. An impromptu mid-week trip with a friend ended with a trunkful of the most gorgeous heirloom pumpkins.

Heirlooms have the best names too. Red Warty Thing, Baby Boo, Long Island Cheese–so much more fun than the basic carving pumpkins of my childhood and another plus is that many heirloom varieties are tasty to cook up and eat too!

We loved this easy guide to identifying pumpkin varieties from Martha Stewart.

So this year, I’m being strategic about heading to the farm a bit later to be sure I have a few beauties left for my Thanksgiving tablescape. I’m looking forward to creating a setting with subtle pastels against one of our gorgeous new dusty violet table linens. I love the break from the traditional fall orange and brown palettes!
