Steal This Look: Faro Mita 1 - Punta Mita Kitchen Remodel and Furniture Project (part 1)
We loved putting this interior design project together for a client in Punta Mita, just North of Puerto Vallarta and wanted to share how to easily recreate the look with furniture and accessories from Guadalajara and other parts of Mexico. This project can easily be reimagined DIY style or feel free to contact us to purchase furniture and window treatments for your Mexican paradise.
Hammock
Whether you want to spend afternoons and weekends napping in a hammock or using one purely for decor and whimsy, hammock are an essencial part of the culture in the Yucatan.
One of our favorite stores to purchase stunning hammocks in Guadalajara is Viento, which means wind or breeze in Spanish but can also mean rope. All of which are perfect words with talking about hammocks.
I would consider their cotton hammocks to be las hamacas de lujo (luxury hammocks)
Viento arte & decoración is located at Av Pablo Neruda 3133, Providencia, 44630 Guadalajara. English &. Spanish spoken.
Many different styles of hammocks can be purchased from https://www.hamacas.mx/ although it cost about $100usd to ship one hammock to the United States.
Surfboard
I honestly have no idea why we have a surf shop in Guadalajara, but a great place to purchase a surfboard for decoration or sports use is Sayulita Shack Surf Shop. I have not been to the store yet, but it is located at Calle Río Negro 1740, Atlas, 44870 Guadalajara. I’m not 100% sure, but I would consider this to be Tlaquepaque instead of Guadalajara. The store is located a couple of blocks from Fórum Tlaquepaque. https://en.sayulitashack.com
Stateside, used surfboards can be purchased at UsedSurf in San Clemente, CA. Just for the genius of their name, I’m going to recommend them. I especially love their Used Retro Surfboard section. Located at 216 Calle de Los Molinos, San Clemente, CA 92672 https://usedsurf.com/
Central Tables
There are many options to use for the wooden stumps that are used as the two central tables. If this is all the table top surface you will need in your living room, I really love the style and practicality of these tables. As when using a glass coffee or cocktail table, the use of a few smaller tables allows the room to appear and feel bigger, as well as, opening up the space.
The first option for these tables would be to purchase wooden stools or tables from a company like Terra Cu. Located at Av. México 2511, Vallarta Norte, 44690 Guadalajara, Jalisco, MX. A few of my favorite options are the Corona Stool (banco) or the Bola Stool set, which comes in several colors and sizes. We also love the Esfera Coffee Table (mesa de centro) if you are looking for a larger table with more surface space.
Area Rug
Okay, We need to have a little chat about the area rug situation in Mexico. They are nearly impossible to find or they are complete polyester crap full of toxins and off gassing potential. I know Feizy sells rugs in Mexico because I have seen them exhibiting at the Expo Muebles in Guadalajara. Lavin Tapetres also sells rugs in Mexico. Their website is nearly useless like most websites in Mexico. I would say that for this reason and the fact that most business in Mexico gets completed face to face, it is often wise to hire an interior designer with knowledge and experience with Spanish and either the Guadalajara or Mexico City interior design fabricators.
We also have some ability to import rugs. When I was last in Los Angeles, my roommate really made me fall in love with the rugs from Maison Lefrena. https://www.maisonlafrena.com/collections/moroccan-rugs I would like to know more about their story. I love their rugs, the prices are amazing, but most of their products are completely out of stock. Depending on the design of the home, Forrest generally likes to put a lot of color on the floor as long as there isn’t an overload of color already in the space. Some of our favorites are in the photos below. Masion Lafrena is located at 1968 S. Coast Hwy, Laguna Beach, CA 92651.
Some of our favorite new interior design projects in the States are located in Laguna and Newport Beach, California.
Another great option is to have a custom rug made from, Stark Carpet, our favorite to the trade rug and carpet vendor in San Francisco. https://www.starkcarpet.com/ They are located at 2 Henry Adams Street, Suite 155, SF, CA 94103 but please contact our team or your interior designer for help designing and ordering unless you are a member of the interior design trade.
Some other great options that are easily purchased in the US and shipped directly to you are:
