Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in travel, style, and food. Hope you have a nice stay!

Art Week Mexico City 2023 - Pata de Perro - Travel for Creative Nomads, Friends, Family and Fans (i.e. How to Unfck Your Travel)

As I get more into the annual routine of design events I really enjoy attending both in the US and Latin America, some events and special weeks are starting to stand out as not to be missed if at all possible. I attended Expo Muebles this weekend which I will always attend if I am in Guadalajara, but it does not change much from year to year and I’m also surrounded by Guadalajara furniture and design at all times of the year.

At the last minute, I decided to attend Art Week Mexico City. I originally thought of this at Zona Maco, but it is so much more than this. For years, Instagram has been an amazing way for me to connect with friends, other designers, and clients, and this week in Mexico City was no exception. After a few missed opportunities, I finally had the opportunity to meet and spend time with Francisco Magadan. Lucky for me, he introduced me to Salon ACME which was my absolute favorite event of the entire trip. I honestly think I would have missed the best part if it wasn’t for him.

It seemed that the best art at Salon ACME was also hidden in the second building which we almost missed all together. We arrived fairly early at around 11:30 am. I definitely would not suggest going much later on Saturday as it was getting much more packed than I am comfortable with by the time we left. This building is stunning, old, and most likely stable, but this is the last place I would want to be during an earthquake. The wooden stairway in the second building seemed dangerous enough without any seismic activity, but these are also some of the things I love about Mexico. I believe innovation and creation evolve faster here without overly oppressive regulations.

Some of my favorite and standout artists were:

Ricardo (of course, I am a huge fan boy of his artwork and love all/most things of Guadalajara)

I ended up purchasing a limited edition piece of his.

Zona Maco -

I imagine Zona Maco is always overwhelming, but I probably attended on the busiest day on Sunday. The expo filled up fairly quickly with IG influencers seemingly only attending for photo opportunities.

I did not make it to BADA as I was only there for 3 days, not nearly enough time to accomplish all that I needed to get done in CDMX.
